What is it like to be a Legal Counsel at Baanx?

Tell us about yourself ✍️ (your name, your role, location, studies, hobbies/interests)

My name is Rafaela Almeida, and I'm a Legal Counsel based in the Lisbon office. I did my degree in Law and then did a double Master's in Law and Business. In my free time, I love to practice sports, skate, and spend time with my dog.

Describe your typical day at Baanx 💻

First thing in the morning, I arrive at the Lisbon office and admire the river view while having a cup of coffee. I then have a quick chat with my colleagues, where we update each other about the work state. As we are from different areas/teams, I find this really useful to never lose track of the big picture of the company's state.

After this, it’s time to start doing my daily job, which consists of providing advice and legal support in a panoply of subjects in order to ensure the smooth running of the company. Twice a week I have meetings with my colleagues from the legal team and our hierarchy to review the state of play and where we debate the issues that we have at hand, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of every situation we may face.

I usually also have lunch with the Lisbon Office Team, where we take the opportunity to know each other better and to bond. As we are a small team that came together recently, those moments to decompress and socialise are really nice. On Thursdays we also have a happy hour at the end of the day arranged by the administration of the facilities, so we can get together in an even more relaxed atmosphere!

What do you love about being a Legal Counsel at Baanx? 😎

Being part of a small team and a company with a start-up environment can be both thrilling and scary. I love feeling that my opinion has really been considered, as well as the space to grow and learn. However, we shall never forget the responsibilities that we have accepted when we joined this project at an early stage. The feeling of having to do my best every day to keep up, that I know my colleagues are also giving themselves, motivates me to run the extra mile. :)

What was the most exciting project you have been part of? 💥

Joining the Baanx EU Team, as it is in such an early stage. This is quite demanding and exciting per se, as, from a legal point of view, there is so much to do from the beginning.

What's the best advice you have received? 👏

It’s not advice that I’ve received, but a phrase from a Portuguese writer that I really like, which goes something like: “Let’s not hurry. But let’s not waste time”.

Pizza with or without pineapples? 🍕

Yes. Is this even a question?! Obviously WITH pineapple!
